Exchange 2013 SP1 MAPI/HTTP not working

Installation of SP1 for Microsoft Exchange 2013 introduces new protocol for Outlook to Exchange connections.
You can use MAPI/HTTP instead of RPC/HTTP.

First, you need to meet some requirements:

But sometimes when you do all of those requirements, you can’t still connect to Exchange 2013 SP1 using MAPI/HTTP.

To check protocol used by Outlook to connect to Exchange Server just hold Ctrl key and clik right on Outlook icon in System Tray and select Connection Status:

Microsoft Outlook 2013 October update – change in To-Do Bar Calendar

Those of you who install Microsoft Outlook 2013, have a problem with Calendar in To-Do Bar.

This problem is that it shows only today meetings. It is a problem for most of us.

But not anymore.

Microsoft released new update for Microsoft Outlook 2013 – KB2825677

After installation of this update you will see in To-Do Bar calendar appointments for up to 7 upcoming days.

I think this is the most important change in this update.

But this update also resolves problems:

  • Appointments for up to 7 upcoming days (when space permits it) are now displayed when you have the Calendar Peek enabled in the To-Do Bar instead of only Today’s appointments (View-> To-Do Bar-> Calendar).
Appointments for upcoming days are now also displayed when you hover on the word “Calendar” at the bottom of your Outlook window.

Cecurity update KB2817630 removes Outlook folder pane

After installing the non-security update KB2817630 many people reports to Microsoft that they lost Folder Pane in Outlook 2013.

Microsoft pulled out this update in 3h of its release.

This patch couses desappearing Folder Pane in Outlook 2013 when you using Office 2013 Standard or Professional Plus.

How to resolve this problem:

Two updates can get a user into this state. Installing the September Public Update delivers an updated version of mso.dll without updating outlook.exe, resulting in the incorrect user interface.

  • If you have Automatic Updates enabled, visit the Add Remove Programs feature of your Windows Installation, and uninstall KB2817630. Close Outlook and restart.
  • If you have installed the August Cumulative update (which you must do manually), removing KB2817347 will correct the issue. From the Add Remove Programs feature, select KB2817347 from the list and select “Uninstall.” Close Outlook and restart.
  • If you have BOTH Updates installed, the problem is not evident. The issue only manifests when one of the updates has been installed. If you have updated to the September Public Update and you want to roll forward, install the August Cumulative update, KB2817347.

Find Exchange mailboxes with the same manager

In previous post we described how to remove Team Calendar from Microsoft Outlook 2010 or 2013

Remove Team Calendar from Outlook

We wrote that team calendars are created from properties of user account in Active Directory, where you can select Manager for any AD account.

When you have the same manager as other AD account (user), you will see in Outlook Team Calendar with users who have the same manager as you.

If you don’t have to remove Outlook Team Calendar, you can check for mailboxes with same manager, and clean them if it’s wrong manager.

Below we present how to find mailboxes and mailboxes manager.

To find mailboxes with the same manager John VIP, you can use below command.
As a result you will get all mailboxes having John VIP as a manager.

Run this command in Exchange Management Shell:

Get-User -ResultSize unlimited | where {$_.manager.name -eq "John VIP"} | select name, recipienttype, RecipientTypeDetails

Automatic configuration of this feature is very convenient. The problem appears when you do not want to see these calendars in Outlook. So we’ll have a little work.

Disable Team Calendar for single user

For single user simply disable this feature directly in Outlook. Expand ‘Calendar Groups‘ and deselect ‘Show Team Calendar‘, ‘Show Manager’s Team Calendar‘.

If we want to avoid user’s ability to manage these functions and permamently disable feature we can use Registry Editor.

So fire up regedit and create folowing  DWORD key:
